STEM Project - Hydraulic Arm

Rules

  • 1 student builds 1 hydraulic arm.
  • The arm needs to lift an empty bottle of water, move it around its axis, put it down, and release the arm.
  • How many bottles can you move in 1 min?
  • You may use any of the following materials:
    • Popsicle sticks/ Carton board/ Futureboard 
    • 8 Syringes
    • Tubes (used in fish tanks)
    • Electric wires (copper) to connect things
    • Glue
    • Colors

Tip

  • Search the Internet for ideas.
  • Go for efficiency: cheap materials and useful design.
  • Test your project before we try it at school.
  • Apply the Engineering Design Process.

(max 20 marks)

  • Design and Appearance - 10 points
  • Working project - 10 points   
  • Creativity - extra points
